Root Canal Treatment Adelaide

Crown and Bridge

Root canal treatment is the removal of the nerve tissue from the root canal through the crown. The affected tooth will be numbed prior to removing the nerve so this procedure will be painless. Once the diseased or dead pulp is removed, the root canal is cleaned, shaped and sealed. The tooth then is filled and often crowned. There is a good long-term success with most root canal treatments.

When we have pain, sensitivity or infection of the tooth, most likely the nerve of the tooth is affected. The nerve (also known as the pulp) can be infected due to decay, cracks or injury to the tooth.

During the early stages of a tooth infection, you may not feel any pain. In some cases, the affected tooth can darken in colour, which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying).

In the past, most infected teeth were extracted. Today, with advanced dental technology, root canal treatment is an alternative treatment to save and keep your natural teeth for longer.

Is RCT always successful?

Unfortunately, not all diseased teeth can be saved. It is similar to digging up a fence post only to find that the wood beneath the ground is rotten and can only be replaced not repaired. Our dentists will always inform you of the success rate before any treatment is given.
