Implant Denture Services Adelaide

Implant-retained dentures are a new alternative to traditional dentures that offers a more secure attachment because of the use of an implant. The implant becomes a fixture inside the mouth that connects directly to the denture. This provides a fixed attachment of the denture to the jawbone, making it the perfect choice for patients wanting a low-maintenance option.

Here at Royal Park Dental, we want to give you the smile you’ve always dreamt of! That is why we offer implant-retained dentures for worry-free everyday living. Our Adelaide dentist will make sure you’ll have dentures that look natural and will stay in place for the rest of your life.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Implant-retained Dentures

Implant-retained dentures are becoming more popular due to the growing number of people opting to have implants instead of traditional dentures. This is because there are many advantages to implant-retained denture systems, which include:

● Maximum stability when eating and speaking
● Better chewing and speaking
● A close look to your natural teeth
● Less risk for receding gums

● Jawbone preservation
● Less to no food or particle see page under the dentures
● No denture fall out

As for the disadvantages, a more complicated procedure will be performed since the implant screws need to be surgically placed on top of your jawbone. Also, implant-retained dentures will be more expensive compared to other denture types.

However, note that this type of denture is considered very low maintenance and sustainable, so you’ll have fewer dental visits and treatments that will be more costly in the long run. Implant-retained dentures only require a minimum level of commitment from the patient and in return, this will last for many years to a few decades!

Types of Implant-Retained Dentures

There are two types of implant-retained dentures for you to choose from: removable or fixed. You have the freedom to choose according to your preferences, and our Royal Park dentist will happily get that for you.

Removable/Snap-On Dentures

Implant-retained fixed dentures are a permanent solution if you don’t want to wear traditional dentures anymore. This option allows you to have a fixed set of teeth that will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

For implant-retained fixed dentures, 4-6 dental implants may need to be affixed to accommodate an arch of dentures. Since this is permanently fixed, it functions like a normal set of natural teeth with less movement and friction. Implant-retained dentures are encouraged as they also allow gum tissue restoration and preservation of the jawbone in the long run.

Fixed Dentures

Implant-retained removable dentures work just like traditional dentures. The only difference is that implant-retained dentures are fixed on the gums via implants while traditional dentures are fixed using denture adhesives. While they are both removable, implant-retained dentures are more stable and do not fall out.

We may affix 2-4 dental implants on your upper or lower jaw, depending on the need and recommendation of our dentist. These will be enough to hold the denture in place, and since it is not fixed, you can remove it anytime if you need to clean it. This is the perfect option for patients who are looking in between traditional dentures and fixed implant-retained dentures.

Clean them regularly.

For removable dentures, it’s best to remove them daily for proper cleaning to remove food and other debris stuck in between the teeth. You can also soak it in water or a denture solution overnight if you want. For fixed dentures, invest in an efficient toothbrush and brush for at least two minutes reaching all areas of your mouth.

Avoid eating hard food.

While dentures are known to be durable, they may still crack and break due to biting or chewing hard food. With this, you should be careful when it comes to choosing the food you eat.

Visit our dentist at least twice a year.

Have our Adelaide dentists check your implant-retained dentures once every six months. This allows them to see if your dentures need professional cleaning or relining. They will also look for plaque build-up or gum infections to prevent dental problems from occurring.
